Chuck Gilmore

Nov. 14 1922 - July 30 2008

      It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Chuck Gilmore, the founder of the Gilmore Art Center.  Succumbing to illness, he was received into the Arms of The Lord, July 30, 2008.    The Gilmore family wishes to invite friends of the business and art communities to come celebrate and remember a life well lived.

     Memorial service time and location are listed below.

     Beginning in 1962, Chuck Gilmore and company were the "Downing Art Center", located at the corner of  6th Ave. and Downing, a commercial art studio and gallery. Back then, if you had need of photo re-touching, Chuck was, "thee man" to go to, long before computers were ever a consideration.  Those who created and developed the program, "Photoshop", were still 20 years away from their own birth.  What you can now do on a PC with a few clicks, Chuck was doing with a steady hand, good lighting and the naked eye.

      In 1978, the Downing Art Center became the "Gilmore Art Center" and in October, had its grand opening, featuring artist, T.F. Poduska.  The Rocky Mountain News, December 8,1978, Center section headline read,   

"Gilmore Art Center gets off to an auspicious start."

     With nearly 50 years supporting the local art scene we have a lot to live up to.
